In Keroshi Village – Balgaum District – the farmers have had a great result after one rainy season. We carried out a pilot bore well recharge project with 5 bore wells. The Fincare Small Finance Bank supported the implementation of our twin ring method of bore well recharge. This was done in May 2022. In early September we visited to see the results. The farmers are very happy. All of these bore wells had been fully dried up . The farmers had stopped using them long ago. But now as a result of the bore well recharge – the water has been restored to these wells. This coming dry season will see pumps back in the bore well and irrigation happening.
For this farmer, the water to recharge the bore well was taken from a nearby stream. It was piped to the cement ring wells surrounding the old bore well. When we looked the water was only a few feet down from the top of the bore well casing pipe. This bore well had been dry for a number of years.
We also visited 3 other bore wells where our team had done the work. These were fed by a small supply pond strategically placed to capture as much run off rain water as possible. In all three cases the bore wells were filling well and the farmers were very happy that they could again use these bore wells. It is expensive to drill new bore wells. And many times as a result of depletion of the ground water, even new wells prove to be dry.
A far cheaper option is to make use of existing dried up bore wells and set them up with a twin ring direct bore well system. This is guaranteed after only one rainy season to give water again.
